Super Bowl Setup
Are the Giants worthy to take to the same field as the mighty Patriots?
The experts will probably say no, but my advice to New England is to not start polishing that dynasty trophy just yet.
I can't help feeling sorry for Brett Favre, though. He's going to have to consider seriously whether he wants to end his career with the interception that kept his team out of the Super Bowl.
Foo, I'll bet the executives at Fox Network are thinking very much the same thing ..... with two teams from an area that a lot of people cover each day in a single commuter train ride ..... not exactly the nation-spanning, multiple-television-market-grabbing matchup that would bring in more numbers.
IMHO, Green Bay would have brought more viewers to the television sets than New York ..... viewers whose team was already eliminated from the big game, but could still pull for one of America's most stories football franchises ..... and Favre has a nationwide following.
Still, the Patriots will have a good pull, no matter who they play. Besides having fans nationwide, they will have folks tuning-in to see if they can pull off a perfect season.
Posted by: Jeff at January 21, 2008 08:16 AMWell, any NFC East fan worth his or her foam finger should be pulling for New York (or against them, depending on how personally they took the Cowboys' loss). I couldn't care less about whether the Pats go undefeated or not; I think that the Giants' 10-game winning streak on the road is almost as impressive, in addition to the fact that they went on the road to beat the two best teams in the NFC to get to the big game.
Of course, I watch the Super Bowl only for the commercials, anyway.
I'm sure the advertisers would have liked a match-up featuring teams from each coast, but it could be much worse. Someday, Tennessee will face off against Carolina.
Posted by: Eric at January 21, 2008 08:38 AMIt just occurred to me that there are possibly some NFC East fans who aren't Giants or Cowboys fans. (Sorry, Jen.) ;-)
Posted by: Eric at January 21, 2008 08:40 AMI'm a Cowboys fan, but not necessarily an NFC East fan. I wanted to see Favre have the chance to cap his career with a Super Bowl win.
And, in the interest of history, I'll be rooting for the Patriots. I'll maintain my habit of TiVo'ing the game and fast-forwarding through it to check out the ads, though. ;)

It's my fault, not Brett's. I would have liked to see The Pack win last night, but I forgot that whomever I root for loses. I should've been rooting for [suppressing desire to spit] New York.
Now we're faced with a superbowl that (as one local DJ put it) a dozen people west of the Mississippi care anything about.
