My New Favorite 4-Letter Word

Sold

After being on the market for three months and 23 days, around noon this coming Thursday, barring any unforeseen complications, we will close on the sale of our old house, and a huge burden will be lifted from our figurative shoulders.

We spent a couple of hours today doing yard work – mowing, edging, pruning, replacing a few plants – so that the new owners can focus on getting moved in without worrying immediately about having to do those things themselves. I had mixed emotions as I shoved my old and busted mower around the yard for what I hope will be the last time (I plan to either donate it to the new owner, if he's desperate enough, or to the landfill, if he's not).

We have a lot of good memories from the last quarter century spent in that house. The trees my dad and I planted as mere saplings are now some of the largest in the neighborhood (and a big factor in the buyers' decision, I'm happy to report). Over the years, we invested almost as much in the house in the form of upgrades and maintenance as we spent to buy it. And, some of those memories aren't so good, but if the good ones outweigh the bad ones over any period of life, I figure I've got nothing to complain about.

I wish the new owners all the best, and I hope they'll be happy in their new surroundings, and will immediately feel at home. But, for us, we're still reveling in that blessed word:

Congratulations, Eric and YLB!!! Woohoo!!!

(as to the lawnmower, might I suggest Bob instead of the landfill? That guy can make things work again!)

"on the market for three months and 23 days" ??? That's what you get for living in a flood zone! :-)

Seriously, though, well done and congradulations to both you and YLB.

Janie, good suggestion, although Bob may not need yet another "project" to occupy his time! He can make that call though.

Kyle, I keep thinking about God laughing at our plans, so I'm never willing to call a deal done until it's a done deal.

Jeff, there really wasn't much that we did to merit a "well done." Of course, reducing the price to $12,000 might have had a little to do with it. ;-)

So happy for y'all. Yep, sold is a GREAT four letter word! I've enjoyed it myself a few times!!!
Now we're ready for a tour of the new place!

Jen, you have an open invitation...drop by anytime!

How nice of you to take the time to groom the yard...God will likely look favorably on that gesture. ;-) Congratulations!

God will likely look favorably on that gesture.

That would be great, but I'd settle for the buyers just showing up at closing with the money.

Although, perhaps that would meet the criteria for your suggestion. ;-)

Exactly! :-)

Being in the affordable "workforce housing" market how do you like these laws:
1. Buyer reads said contract and has to wait 3 complete days before signing.
2. Buyer can back out anytime between contract signing and delivery of the "workforce housing" for no reason whatsoever.
3. After delivery the buyer can back out within 7 days for no reason whatsoever and only forfeit their deposit which would not cover the expenses of delivery and setup and then return.
But hey, lets don't crack down on shady car dealers and lenders that make interest only mortgages, they're not "predatory".

Bleu, that just proves the old saying (which I just made up, but, still...) that anything worth regulating is worth over-regulating!
