Closed

I've been remiss – based on some of your gentle nudgings – in reporting that we did indeed close on the sale of our house on Thursday, as scheduled.

The closing itself was anti-climactic, as we didn't even get to meet the buyers. We signed our papers first, then they came in and signed theirs. Thus, we left the closing without any money. (And, in fact, it wasn't until the wire transfer from the abstract company cleared the next day that we could actually feel like we'd made the sale.)

I had compiled a list of things I wanted to discuss with the buyers, so I was disappointed at missing a face-to-face meeting. I felt it was important that they knew a few details about their new home that didn't really fit into any of the required disclosures. Such as:

  • The valve boxes for the sprinkler system are located in the front flower bed, just in inside the gate to the back yard, and just east of the pecan tree.

  • The garage opener light sometimes stays on when it should automatically go off.

  • They should really avoid looking over the back fence into the neighbors' yard during a full moon.

  • It's of the utmost importance that they never unlock the closet door in the back bedroom between midnight and 2:00 a.m. Never mind the reason; just trust me on this.

OK, perhaps I'm kidding about one or two of those things. But there are a couple of items that the new owners will want to know, and I'll have to get with them at some other time.

In the meantime, we're looking at our suddenly inflated bank balance, and reveling in the fact that we could now buy one of these, or pay for one of these, or strap on one of these and still have enough left over for a couple of pounds of caviar.

Or...we could just use the proceeds to, you know, help pay for the new house. Booooring. But, sometimes, boring is good. In any event, to borrow a line from the Mastercard commercials, not having to mow two yards is priceless.

Eruc, congratulations on closing!

But you forgot a fourth option for that new bank balance ..... treat all your e-friends to the greatest actual-gathering-of-virtual-acquaintances ever ..... including flying-in Jim, Pattie, etc.

Congratulations.

I'll tell Sharon to cut you a break on the hosting fee next time I meet her for lunch.

I thought the Select-Comfort was alittle pricey ... and that price it should have one of these: http://www.retrothing.com/2007/06/magic_fingers_v.html

Thanks, folks! It's difficult for me to put into words my reaction to your suggestions to help us spend our money. ;-)

Oh, did I forget to mention that payment for fall semester tuition and fees is now due? Donations gladly accepted!
