Verizon + Alltel = Better TV?

If Verizon is successful in its attempt to purchase rival Alltel, the guy most likely to be seen crying is Chad Brokaw, the blue-shirted spokesman in the increasingly lame series of TV ads pitting Chad against the four nerdy losers representing the competition. (What's up with that wizard, anyway? I keep expecting a tie-in with The Hobbit.)

Or, Verizon could continue the series, but have Chad become the slave (ala Seinfeld) of Matthew Brent, the nunchuk-wielding Verizon avatar.

As a current Alltel customer, my take on the combination is that it's one more justification for an iPhone.

If the merger does result in Chad, the foolish foursome and the WIZ-arrrd disappearing from the airwaves, that would be just fine with me.

Yeah, I agree. I thought the original ads – where Alltel used lookalikes for the others' celebrity spokespersons – were hilarious, but, as is often the case, such creativity was squashed by threats of litigation by the humorless competitors.

Ever notice until the last commercial where he says "Hey, look a puppy", the T-mobile guy never says anything?
As for the iPhone wait till next week, The "Stevenote" is said to premiere the new 3g iPhone (also a look at 10.6 Snowleopard) which will be thinner and better battery life. Get ready for the iPhone to be all things to all people, with the new software 2.0 will make the iPhone a Blackberry "killer", a gaming platform and the list goes on.

Yeah, we're fast running out of excuses not to get iPhones. Except for the huge price, that is. Ouch.
