Just a note, obviously Gunfighter, the P51 Mustang piloted by Gen. Reg Ursler in this flight represents an aircraft retired from the Air Force, but now both the F4 Phantom and the F15 Eagle are also retired from the current inventory. But it is a beautiful sight.
Posted by: Gregg at August 3, 2008 08:59 PMThanks, Janie. I wish I'd had a better camera at that time; the old 3mp Olympus was not really up to the task.
Gregg, I was hoping you'd weigh in with enlightening observations for those of us who appreciate the beauty and tradition of these planes but are totally ignorant about the details.
Posted by: Eric at August 3, 2008 09:49 PMA few years ago Phantom flew over my Galveston bayside cottage late one afternoon---at minimum altitude too :) I had no idea what it was---all I could remember were the backsides of those big jet engines---and the roar! It took me days to figure out what it was. I had never seen one actually flying before. It was probably the same one in this photograph :)
