How the West was Won

For reasons I simply cannot fathom, my clients are expecting me to do some work and stuff, and thus I've not made much progress on our Hill Country trip report. But I hope to assuage your bitter disappointment by sharing the following video with you.

The ball of fluff striking fear into the hearts of the cattle is a three pound Yorkie named Paris. She always accompanied us on our walks around the B&B because she could tell that we needed protecting from the fierce cows; Abbye was obviously useless in that regard. (In fact, I don't think she ever really figured Abbye out.)

What this particular clip doesn't show is the way she would chase the cows off the road, then turn around and look at us as if to ask, "didja see that, huh, didja didja?!" If we expressed suitable adoration, she would seek out the next bovine victims.

I'm pretty sure all the parties involved had some kind of understanding, but it was still entertaining to behold.

my friend babies her yorkies and "protects" them from anything that might frighten them....now i know it's all for her not them - they are the great protectors!!!

Shana, I was surprised at how fearless she was. We walked along a trail through some pretty dense brush and she was in and out of that brush just like any full-grown hunting dog.

Of course, Yorkies – like other terriers – were bred to hunt and kill rats and other vermin, so they are quite confident as a breed. Or, as the Wikipedia entry puts it, most of them have a "self-important personality."

Laughing Out Loud.
... a "self-important personality." That sums it up perfectly.

"tiny terrier strikes terror in cattle"

"Terrier Terror"

I wish I'd thought of that!

She's too cute...and I'd bet y'all did feel pretty safe around her!

You bet. In fact, during our entire stay in Fredericksburg, we didn't suffer a single cow attack. Now that's protection! ;-)

Have you watched any of America's Greatest Dog show? Travis from Perry OK is Wade's nephew. He has a boxer named Presley. I'm surprised at what those dogs can and can't do.

Alice, we haven't seen that show. The ads look interesting, but we've never gotten around to watching it.

Dogs are amazing creatures, that's for sure.
