Ha! You call that a spider? That's not a spider. THIS is a spider.

I once thought I might like to visit Australia, until my pal Mark Springer sent me a link to this story: Giant spider snapped eating bird in backyard

That link gives the background; here's a link to more photos of this incredibly disturbing scene from nature.

As I told Mark in my "thanks," I'll likely not be sleeping for a few weeks now.

And they say everything's bigger in Texas. I'll be glad to concede this particular award!

Forget the flyswatter...how about a shotgun?

how about a shotgun?

I dunno. You might just make it mad!

I am not even sure my Westies and Daschsund (50lbs of fangs and claws) could take that beast...if they could jump up that high. Can you imagine having one of those in the backyard? You would have to give it a name and register it with the county.

Definitely have to call the exterminator for that life-threatening pest. I'll even give a tip for hazardous duty pay.

I'm pretty sure God never intended for spiders to get that big. It's just very, very wrong.

Bless you Eric, for linking out to the photos and not putting them on the blog. I did NOT go look at them; I will trust your sparse narrative on this one.

UGH! I've been itchy all day cuz I thought a bug was on me....now there's no hope for me! That's horrid!

Deborah, this is one time where the reality is actually worse than the imaginary. The spider is bad enough, but the image of the beautiful bird trapped in the web made me incredibly sad.

Shana, if this big honkin' arachnid was on you, you'd be more than itchy!

made me sad, too. doesn't seem right.
